Last night I watched MTV
I don’t have cable. I haven’t had it for over a year now and I love my life as a result. I do watch quite a few cable shows, but it is usually cause I download them or stream them from some fly-by-night website. However during this past weekends Hurrical Storm Irene, I went to my buddies Ross, Sal, and Naomi’s place to experience the beast up close. We ate snacks, drank and...

Summer Vibes
Now that we’re hitting that hazy-ass midsummer period, it’s time to break out the summer jamz! I really haven’t been listening to a lot of summertime bangers, because I haven’t found very many this summer that really stand out. But I have been listening to a TON of the new wave R&B and a few choice rock bands:
Frank Ocean - The guy is the only part of Odd Future that...

Bill Simmons' Grantland is the Greatest Thing
I was reading www.grantland.com, which is Bill Simmons’ new collaborative sports and pop-culture website/my favorite website ever and in an article about the last half of the Mavs/Heat Game 6, he raises I think the most astute point about why the country has decided to get on LeBron’s case as much as we have:
“Let’s say you’re in college and one of your buddies...
No One Likes That Guy
For about a week now, I’ve found myself growing weary of all of the music I have. This is sad because I get maybe 3-4 albums, ep’s a week. I listen to music from the moment I wake up and get ready for work, the entire car ride to work, while I’m at my desk, when I go to sleep, and any other time in between, so to tire of your own stuff is actually pretty bad. However, as of...
The Human Centipede II: Full Sequence
When I first heard that The U.K. had banned The Human Centipede II, my first thought was “pansies”. I mean yea I saw the first movie and it was gross and all and had no real value of any kind, but I can’t imagine that THC2 could be any worse than twice as bad. However, I read the synopsis of the sequel and I couldn’t even get past the third sentence. The U.K. Film...

The Royal Wedding
I don’t get it. Is the royal wedding for me? Hell no! But here is my issue with it. I don’t understand why people care about it. It’s two people getting married and I just can’t really get where the entertainment value comes from. Women like shit I’ll never ever care about: The Real Housewives, Twilight, Greys Anatomy, etc etc. The thing about those are I get...
Odd Future gets signed by Paul Scheer! This is a pretty funny video, and what I imagine record labels would try to do if they attempted signing Odd Future.
Siren Fest is no more :(
This is a sad day for me. Siren Fest has been one of my favorite summer days of the year for the past 7 years or so. A lot of people aren’t the biggest fan of the day, but to me, it was like a holiday. It was an excuse to go to Coney Island and spend the day drinking 5 dollar 64oz Beers in the street which is always fun, and listen to bands all day in between riding the Cyclone and...
Crown Heights becomes ProCro.
As a former resident of Crown Heights, this video resonates a bit more with me. I still miss Franklin Park. If you’ve never been to Crown Heights or “Pro Cro” go visit before it’s completely gentrified!

Tom Ford: Go Fly A Kite!
In an interview by Jefferson Hack of AnOther magazine, Tom Ford gives his Five Commandments for Gentlemen:
1. You should put on the best version of yourself when you go out in the world because that is a show of respect to the other people around you.
- DUH DUDE.
2. A gentleman today has to work. People who do not work are so boring and are usually bored. You have to be passionate, you...

An Open Letter To PepsiCo. Makers of Mountain Dew...
Dear PepsiCo,
As you may or may not already know, I am a huge fan of Mountain Dew. Before I started drinking alcohol, you were there for me. You made sure that all nights of Wrestlemania 2000 or JetMoto were full of XTREME. You taught me that backyard wrestling could be fun if I was jacked up on your citrusy nectar. When I turned 17, you did something that could honestly be noted as one of...
State of Hate
So it’s been a while since I made mention of stuff I don’t like. Here is just a quick rundown of shit that I just flat out don’t like:
- Anyone who finds anything about Charlie Sheen to be the least bit interesting.
- If the NFL goes to an 18 game schedule.
- When people think The King’s Speech was the best film of the past year (not even close).
- People who hate...

Spring Is Almost Here. C'mon Get Happy Music!
I am very much excited for the spring to roll around for obvious reasons, but I think primary reason I’m ready for the change is because I am a seasonal music listener. I don’t bump wild shit during the winter unless it comes from Die Antwoord, Jack Parow, or Magnetic Man. I usually keep a rotation heavy with downbeat stuff like The Antlers and Bon Iver. As much as I like that...

Russ' Rules for being an Ok Dude:
While I was in New Orleans last week having an incredible time as usual, I got to thinking about what do I consider to be the marks of a successful young man in today’s society. Luckily enough, the bar has been lowered to the point that all you have to do is show up to be considered an ok guy, so here are a few of the marks that I think make a dude, pretty ok.
1. Lie.
By this I mean...

It’s a site that compiles 100 indie rock songs onto a mix and releases them each month. I’ve just downloaded the January Mix and theres a lot of good stuff on it!
THE MARS BAR
It’s been about 5 days now since I first stepped foot in The Marz Bar (real fans spell it with a Z) and I haven’t come down from the high that place gave me. I have wanted to go there for the past few months especially in light of the fact that it is closing after Jan. 31st, due to an exorbitant rent hike, but this friday I finally checked it out with some pals of mine from college...

We can safely say those are over now right?
Possible New NFL 2012 Uniforms →
Nike is taking over the NFL Uniform license which will invariably send Reebok immediately into Chapter 11. I doubt these are actually real designs, but I think it would be awesome if the NFL took some of these uniform ideas into consideration.

Albums of 2010
These were the albums that I have to say I liked better than everything else this year. It was really hard to bring this list to these albums alone because so much good music came out this year, but these were the ones that for me really stood out as the best.
15. Mark Ronson and the Business Intl - Record Collection
Best Track: You Gave Me Nothing
14. Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
Best Track:...

Travel Season is Movie Season
So, within the last week I’ve been to Staten Island, Phoenix, Tucson, Home, and now Minneapolis and St. Paul til Friday. It always seems like a lot of fun at first to fly around and stay in hotels, but quickly you come to realize that business trips aren’t as sexy as the ones George Clooney has led us to believe they are. I can say one good thing is that I have seen 4 movies in the...

Arcade Fire's The Suburbs: Album of the Decade?
I am laying on a thick coating of praise by the title of this post, but I’m actually half-serious. Having listened to Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs at least 25 times from beginning to end since I got it, I really cannot remember an album that was not only good, but brought me back to those days when I would hear an album and feel as though it was made specifically for me. I read a review...
Football is better than everything else
It is the middle of the summer right now. Lebron is going to take his talents to South Beach, The World Cup is over and forgotten, Mike Pelfrey used to look like an ace in the Mets rotation and now looks like, well, Mike Pelfrey, and it all just makes me think about one thing: Football. Yes I am one of those people who lauds football above all else in the realm of sport. However I don’t...
From the Yeasayer concert from back in February 2010. This is still my favorite concert I’ve been to this year and up there in my all-time list. Baebelmusic posted the entire thing and I think that is pretty awesome.

Breaking Bad is Good For You!
Breaking Bad is the best show ever on television.
It’s better than Mad Men. It’s better than Friday Night Lights. It’s better than Dexter. It’s better than LOST. It took a while for me to say it’s better than Lost and I feel like that is a big step for me. Since it’s been gone I have found myself re-watching select scenes and re-watching is where you...
